I am moving this to non-music gaming discussion, both because it better fits there, and because it will be less likely to fall off the first page. _________________

I played iglooman1 for my game, and I won.
The ending checkmate contained multiple blunders from both sides. Basically, we both blundered away a queen without realising until it was too late. Oops.
Edit: Heh, I played MUCH better in the friendly game we had afterwards, so watch out Shinobi! _________________

Sorry, but I am on vacation now and I have to drop out. I am an alternate so I probably won't affect anything, but you can remove me from the list. _________________

Lookin forward to it. I'm not the best chess player but I can sometimes pull a nice little tactical one-two punch out of my pocket.
Also, looks like a few brackets may be empty second round. Can either fill these with people who lost in round 1 (as there aren't many alternates left), or just make them round 2 byes.
EDIT: Wow, didn't realize Yahoo had such a crappy way of showing games. PGN notation plz. @_@ Looks like somebody got lazy coding... Was going to post my first round game but it is way too hard to follow and no PGN viewer is going to let you throw that trash in. _________________

Heh, same here. Sometimes I play like a complete moron, sometimes I play like a grandmaster. Just gotta get lucky in all of the games, I suppose. <_<
Does PGN use the proper algebraic notation? Yahoo is waaaay too difficult to follow, but it's the only free chess server I really know of.
Edit: If you like, I could try seperately recording games in algebraic. For the games that I'm not involved in, feel free to PM me the notation that Yahoo comes up with and I'll reformat it for you. _________________

PGN is the proper chess notation.
N for Knight
B for Bishop
Q for Queen
K for King
R for Rook
Instead of using that convention, yahoo just uses the locations. Instead of:
e4 c5
Nf3
as the first few moves, you get:
e2-e4 c7-c5
g1-f3
lolwut? Come on now...
Actually, the first PGN viewer in google search reads Yahoo's notation just fine (if you use this to view future yahoo games, remember to convert castle moves to uppercase O-O instead of o-o and O-O-O instead of o-o-o. That's the only change necessary.):
http://www.lutanho.net/pgn/pgnviewer.html
I fixed up my first game anyways:
Code: |
1. e4 c5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. d4 cxd4
4. Nxd4 Nxd4
5. Qxd4 d6
6. Nc3 e5
7. Qd1 h5
8. Nd5 Bg4
9. Be2 Nf6
10. Bg5 a5
11. Bxf6 gxf6
12. Bxg4 hxg4
13. Qxg4 Bh6
14. O-O b5
15. b3 Rc8
16. Qe2 Rg8
17. Qxb5+ Kf8
18. f4 Rxc2
19. fxe5 fxe5
20. g3 Rxg3+
21. hxg3 Qg5
22. Rf3 Qg6
23. Raf1 Qxe4
24. Rxf7+ Kg8
25. Qe8+ Bf8
26. Qxf8++
|
EDIT:
I was really worried about 22.. Qh5.
It's not a mate threat persay, but is still quite a nasty position for me and would have prevented me from lining up my rooks while threatening the one out in the open on f3. Probably would have had to do Qd3 to protect my rook and threaten his, which would trigger him to pull his rook over to my H file maybe, threatening ...Rh1+, and ...Rxa1. I think that Raf1 is safe to do at that point, but with a Queen and Rook bearing down on me along with time constraints, I'm not sure I would have seen that or would be able to convince myself of it's safety.
Gotta love chess! XD
EDIT2:
nm, on further analysis
22. ... Qh5
23. Qd3 Qh2+
24. Kg1 Qh1++
Yeah I woulda been in mucho trouble! lol. Guess Rf2 is the best at that point, though it feels wrong to set up a pin for the Black Bishop, even if it is protected by my knight.
thegibbonator wrote: | Edit: I'm looking into what Black was trying to do with his rook sacrifice 20. ... Rxg3 now. It didn't seem to achieve much, and seems to be more a blunder than a proper sacrifice. |
Yeah, that was a blunder. Though I think I was staring at it for a good minute trying to figure out what was going on as well. _________________

Is it bad that you ninja'd my own analysis? I came up with the exact same mating line for Black. <_<
Only other real notable analysis that I've done so far was that there was a little time-wasting in the opening with the White queen, nothing exactly major. I haven't done any deep analysis yet.
Edit: I'm looking into what Black was trying to do with his rook sacrifice 20. ... Rxg3 now. It didn't seem to achieve much, and seems to be more a blunder than a proper sacrifice.
Edit 2: Yeah, thought so. Quite how Black managed that one, I'm not sure. Perhaps he didn't see the pawn on h2?
Edit 3: Damn it. Shinobi won our proper game, in which I played HORRIBLY. We then played a friendly game, and guess what? I won, and both of us played better than in the actual game. Sigh.

The PGN viewer is refusing to continue past this point, so the only way I can keep going with this is finding my chess set and going through the game that way.
Here's the rest of the game in the Yahoo format, in any case:

*knock knock* anyone still here? I beat anajata after almost tossing my laptop midgame when it overheated and decided not to turn on again. Got back on using another computer though. Good game! _________________

Phew, I beat LordMathias after a really tight game where he had me, were it not for a blunder that evened out the material. Again, great game LM. |

Round 3 scores due 7/27.
Barbaloot and Fyndig remain for round 2 but the winner is getting a round 3 bye. Barb said he will be playing sometime tonight, but even if not, that matchup will be moved to a 7/27 deadline as well. _________________

Cool yudlugar, updating the bracket now.
Also, Yell, I don't know if your inbox is full but it seems that a pm I sent July 4th to you hasn't been opened yet. Might want to see and delete a couple messages if so. Anyways, just wanted to see about setting up our chess match before it gets too late in the week. Tonight or tomorrow night would be great. I live in EST timezone (GMT-5) and would be fine playing any time 6:00pm - 12:00am. Let me know on the thread or via pm or AIM if you have it and just don't have your name in your profile. _________________
