The book's explanation is long-winded and has to do with a lot of backstory the movie cut out, but essentially it's a special type of moving fabric he acquired acquired when he was young.
Quote: | Also, did Veidt really discover free energy from Dr. Manhattan, as well as the other stuff? I saw a car at the end being fueled from a random thing on the sidewalk, but I wasn't sure if that's what that was signifying. |
The book and movie differ on this, but I believe that's the case on film.
Quote: | And what was the deal with his tiger thing? Did he just create that in his spare time, or what? |
Another thing they probably cut for time, it's a genetically modified Lynx that Manhattan's research helped Ozy create. |

So I saw the movie Thursday night at midnight (well, Friday morning), and I just got back from seeing it again in IMAX. I'm not gonna write any sort of review or anything, but I will say that I loved the movie (both times lol) and that I highly recommend it even if you have read the graphic novel and doubt the film's credibility. _________________

Went to see this opening night...
I've read the graphic novel, and I think the movie adaptation was quite good.
Spoilers: Quote: | Some fanboys really disapprove of the new ending. However, I feared that the pirate comic/movie filming/fake alien subplot would greatly disrupt the flow of a film adaptation. I think the ending that is in the movie keeps the spirit and feel of the graphic novel intact, while allowing for the leap from paper to the big screen. |
One thing I have to say... Someone greased some palms in a big way to keep this movie from being R in Canada / NC17 in the states. I had some asshole bring his 7ish year old son and daughter with him, who spent the whole movie kicking my seat, talking, making noises, and asking their dad stupid questions. Not to mention constant "OH MY GOD" everytime something gory happened, and snickers and outright shock when nudity/sex were shown. I was downright pissed off by this. Kids simply should not be watching this movie, and it made me realize there is a major failure in the rating system in Ontario.
(Here there is G (General = Anyone), PG (Parental Guidance ADVISED but not necessary.. wtf is up with that, why even bother with the rating?), 14A (Under 14 must be accompanied by adult), 18A (Under 18 must be accompanied by an adult), and R (18+ period) )...
I realized there's no fair compromise for this movie. I think some sort of rating which allows for 14-17 year olds to come in IF accompanied, but no-one under the age of 14 under any circumstances, would be okay... But there's no such system for that. There's no way children should be allowed into this movie just because their idiot parent decides it's appropriate for them, or even worse, doesn't realize how inappropriate it is before getting there.

Anyway, great flick. Thorougly enjoyed it. _________________

To add to my other post, only go see in IMAX if you are a pretty big IMAX buff and if you have amazing tolerance for really really really loud music (which is one of my biggest complaints about the movie, the music is way too distracting). I enjoyed the movie a lot better at a normal AMC theater.
I also had a long winded discussion with a friend about the lack of any debate over the movie's rating. I was really surprised the movie got away with just being R, thought I'm not complaining as I don't turn 17 till Thursday _________________

@ No1ButU
I know what you mean dude. Some idiot parents here brought kids that were about three by my estimation. Before we entered the theater, they asked the parents, "They aren't gonna die in real life right?" I'd like to see how that turned out. _________________

I used the search function and found another, earlier Watchmen thread. It's smaller than this one, so it's not a big deal, but I thought you'd all enjoy this. (I did not do this)

The movie was pretty decent, but I'm more stoked for the upcoming cartoon series:
