How about special weekends where each post made adds 2 to the user's post count? This would be a great incentive for people to get more active in the forums. A lot of good discussion may come from this that might not have otherwise occurred.

Sounds good to me. If posts add twice the count, surely users will ensure they have twice the discussion value.

As long as it's only limited times so people are conscious of the numbers.

I dunno, this will probably mean people will post more on the weekend and I'm usually too drunk to moderate effectively on those days. Maybe to counteract this we should require people to be drunk as well, provided they are of legal drinking age (and if they're not we can tempban them until they sober up).

I approve of this idea. Sorta reminds me of A18 with double experience weekends. Got SO many people to play that normally wouldn't have.

The problem I see with it is relativity. If EVERYONE posts twice as much as they normally do, at twice the post count as they normally post, won't everyone's post count be exactly where it is, proportionally to the other members. I don't see how this would make a member feel like he or she was getting somewhere.

Won't this cause rampant inflation in the postcount market?

Well it's only relative amongst those active during the "special" times.

Ideally we'd reach the point that it becomes enough of a highly anticipated event that everyone makes an appearance. In that case everyone's post count would raise at the same rate, relatively speaking, but we'd have already acquired a higher level of activity to reach that point. It's win-win!

Only if the value of a post goes down as a result. I'll see if I can finally get that post-value script I've been talking about working so we can measure the effects over time.

Ah, I gotcha. That makes more sense I guess. So is this like an official statement saying we don't care if people post whore, as long as we get activity? Or is it not that black and white?

It's like the old Alakaiser rule goes, it's not post whoring if people post because they have something to say rather than posting because they have to say something. I don't think higher activity necessarily implies one or the other, but we'll have to see.
