AAArrrggghhh!!!!! It is so frustrating.... I have been playing the crap out of RB for a while now and haven't played GH in a while, so I actually traded in some old games and bought GH-Metallica.. went to play Orion and totally forgot about the open strum notes on the bass guitar.. that is ridiculous!! Am I the only one here that does not find this style enjoyable to play?

I'm majorly bummed.. I was really looking forward to doing some shredding Cliff Burton style.. oh well just needed to get that off my chest. thanks for listening..

thanks-epi

You might be the only one in this boat. lol I loved the open notes. Bass is already pretty easy on 99% of the songs out there and that's on Expert. The open notes gave it so much more of a challenge. I think it was a genius idea

What he said. Before open notes, bass was basically for people who wanted to play on Expert, but weren't that good, but now it is something different and exciting and gives a unique challenge that can't be found on the other instruments.

I don't know... I guess I like to keep a bit of the realism factor in it, and I don't think that open strumming really fits in with all of the other "realistic" improvements they have made from one release to the next.. Hammer ons/pull offs, solo notes for fret board (no strum required) etc... all things that are used. I've never seen a bass player in real life use an open strum. Anyway, that's why I don't care for it... who knows, maybe it will grow on me once I get more used to it..

thanks-epi

You've obviously not watched alot of bass players. They use them all the time.

Not trying to sound like a jerk, but seriously, they are a big part in playing the bass. My friend is a bass player and thought it was awesome how they added open notes in GHWT.

Also, they are awkward at first, but the more you play them, the better you become and the more fun it becomes overall

you are right... i haven't seen a whole lot, or haven't paid that close attention to that.. like you I have a friend that played/plays bass and he said he's never heard of it... (of course he has a habit of only slightly listening, so he very well may have not even known what I was saying and just reacted to the uncertainty in my voice.... lol) so that and the fact that it is SOOOO different than the GH I am used to I immediately formed an opinion about it... I'll give it another shot..

BTW, "not trying to sound like a jerk" you dropped the ball on that one buddy I'm totally offended... JK You weren't even close to sounding like a jerk.. I appreciate the insight.

Not everyone likes open notes. I think they're kinda neat, but sometimes their charting is awkward (Master of Puppets, BYOB...). I know one person in my RB accs thread at one point said they're in the game too much, and that could be the issue.

There's really not much else to do, except practice with them.

That could be.. I know i played Orion, and I think it was Disposable Heroes and that was just littered with open notes on Hard..

i love the open notes, adds a whole new element to it. without open notes, your band's bassist was just your 2nd best guitarist who was forced into playing a really boring chart also, just because you're uber at playing lead doesnt mean you'll be an uber bass now, it doesnt always translate 100%

in metallica they really made some ridiculous charts out of it tho, they toned it down a bit in gh5

Bass was like "Ok, I am not that good at expert yet so I'll play bass, and you play guitar, just don't play The Way it Ends, okay?"

The open notes can be frustrating at first, but take the confusion into practice mode and you got yourself a different, fresh way of playing GH.

Why would you even bother posting that....?

Same question.

It was to inform you of it's actual purpose.
