Guys...what is a good layout for stat maxing on FF10?
Like I'm going about it as having one "area" for each stat is that makes sense? The starting circle I had for Kimahri is now entirely devoted to defense and I have 120 defense for that set of spheres alone. It'll be the same for all other stats (aside from luck maybe...) is this a good idea?

*EDIT* I guess it is...since I doubled my defense in about 2 hours having this formation.

I've seen many people suggesting this method, so it should be good. But I don't see how it matters. Personally I just add nodes as I go over the grid, so it's all really scrambled. Worth noting is that I just focus on getting one character to the max. Then I plan on just going on a Don Tonberry rampage with everybody else. And I'm done with all but luck. It's been a while since I last played, but I have got to go back and finish this (and beat penance, of course).

Anyway I don't know the point of having any particular structure in your sphere grid; if you're a completionist you'll fill the grid. My aim would be to do what's the least tedius, like getting as much variation as possible in the monster arena.

I always start in the top-left and do one stat until I max it. There is a way of doing the stats in order so that each successive Arena boss is relatively easy, but I'm fucked if I can remember it. None of them are exactly hard anyway tbf, it doesn't make a whole lot of difference.

Serious advice now: No-one likes indecision in their work, so find what you like that you're even remotely good at, and stick with it. Don't flit from one thing to another, because that just smacks of a large lack of determination and drive. And people don't like you for that, and won't remember you for it. I mean, I get that you have a plucky spirit and a willingness to try new things, but there's a limit, man.
I might knock it down to just Thursday and Friday.

See...I've pretty much maxed out defense, strength and magic defense. I'm now working on accuracy now. Then it'll likely be agility. Then evasiveness. Then Magic last of all...Most of the arena bosses are easy, its just Nemesis, Jumbo flan & ornitholestes at the moment. Once I've maxed out accuracy I might try dark Ixion again..

*edit* well Beat Ixion with a bit of hassle...but fackin' 'ell is Jumbo Flan hard. I still have to max out Evasion then that mountain that is Magic Sphere gathering will occur.

Mate, 'e's a fuckin' pussy. All you need to do is bang 'im up blud then you're sorted like.

On a serious note...15 fights with Pteryx then 15 with Jumbo Flan and I'm sorted. How useful is luck? But I dunno whether I should actually grind for it, since that is one hell of a grind.

I beat Penance with luck hovering around 80-100 and I don't think I missed the bugger once. It's useful, but on the Euro SGs high luck is far from required.

...Shit. My highest character has a luck of 30. Ah well, as long as I can get through the Dark Aeons without needing to lob it up I'll work on it after them. Ideally though I would like to get Ribbon for Rikku after beating Shiva. Its worth saying the only character with over 9999 hp is Tidus, and that was accidental.

I think after working on Evasion I might try to beat Nemesis. Shouldn't be TOO hard right?

*EDIT* OH MY GOD...using those sphere distillers has cost me the chance for about 20 dark matter. FML.

*EDIT EDIT* Fuck yes...beat Nemesis. Long battle was long.

*EDIT EDIT EDIT* Oh my god...Dark Shiva was easily the most annoying battle of all so far. How do you dodge 255 accuracy so damn easily?!

Speaking of Final Fantasy, I'm going to be trying to put together a full collection. Original black labels with manuals is all I'm shooting for- none of this factory sealed or Greatest Hits nonsense.

I can see this putting me back a few hundred dollars, considering I'm starting from scratch. WHY DIDN'T I KEEP MY GAMES BACK IN THE DAY?

You should be able to beat most of the dark aeons with crappy Luck, but don't count on it. At 255 everything with 30 Luck, you should be fine. It will need to be higher for Penance, though: missing Penance once sets the fight back several minutes. I think Bahamut is probably the hardest dark aeon, unless you try to take on the Magus sisters simultaneously.

If you haven't beaten Dark Yojimbo yet, you can use him to farm Ribbon armours; win the first few fights, save and reset. His position will be reset to the back of the cave and you'll keep whatever he dropped before you saved. BHPL + Ribbon + 2 slots isn't that rare, either

(That said, worth remembering that BHPL can often be a hindrance even if you don't have anything better to put in the slot.)

Luck's not too bad to grind, it really isn't. GS and EE are both pushovers, the fights just take... a while

Damn, this thread is making me want to fire up YONS again, I could totes beat the rest of the dark aeons...

Ribbon would be useful, only for Yuna & Rikku though. Hence why I have been trying to grind the dark matter up for ribbon for Rikku. Cheers for the tip though

After I'm done grinding magic I'll go after Dark Bahamut since all of my other stats are 255 bar luck.

Getting it after my first class From just a few reviews I've read, everyone us saying they improved upon XIII greatly and it's worth picking up. We'll see though.

EDIT:
Quote:
Battle

-- Changes people wanted to see: When the party leader dies in battle, it isn't automatically over; you simply switch to the surviving character.

GOD DAMN IT YES THIS ALONE IS WORTH IT

Friday can't come soon enough. I can't even afford to eat this week but it's a minor sacrifice to play FF13-2.
