|
|
Welcome to Music Discussion! Like the name would suggest, this is your haven for talking about music. Want to make a thread about your favorite band? Go for it. Want a few constructive tips on becoming a better guitarist? Make a thread for it. Read through this thread to make sure the thread you have in mind is going in the right place and abides by our rules first.
Rules
- NEW TOPICS:
- Before posting, be sure there isn't already a topic where your post would be better suited.
- Make sure your post is interesting to read and discuss. Threads without sufficient discussion value are subject to being locked or deleted at the discretion of the staff.
- News articles are welcome if they follow the above two rules. Pasting an article or a link and saying "Discuss." probably means the article doesn't have much discussion value. If you can't even think of something to discuss, why are you posting in the first place?
- POSTING REPLIES:
- If you don't have constructive advice, unique input or thoughtful observations, then you have no reason to reply.
- +1s, "^ this," "I agree"-type responses are worthless.
- If replying to a music critique thread, give actual advice. Don't just say that a user sucks at their instrument if you think they do; give some help on how to improve.
- NO FLAMING:
- In this forum especially, each person will have his or her own opinion. Nobody's opinion is superior, so treat your fellow members with respect.
- Demeaning, sarcastic, or derogatory comments directed towards insulting other members will not be tolerated.
- If you see flaming, report it. Getting involved by returning flames or backseat moderating (i.e. calling out the flaming) makes you just as guilty.
- UNDERSTANDING OPINIONS VS. FACTS
- State your opinions respectfully, and state them as opinions. Musical taste is entirely subjective and nobody is the end-all be-all decider of good music.
- Nobody's opinion is right or wrong. If you tell somebody that he or she is wrong, it better be in reference to incorrect factual information.
- When possible, don't just post an opinion; try to think about how and why you've come to your belief, and give some reasoning behind it.
- If you disagree with another member, explain your side with factual reasoning, or agree to disagree in a respectful manner.
- Dispute the argument, not the person. Heated and passionate debates are acceptable when aimed at the facts and with rationale to back up the fire.
- NO TROLLS:
- Don't look for loopholes or intentionally provoke others into breaking any rules.
- Trolling will be punished at the staff's sole discretion regardless of any of the above rules.
- REPORTING:
- If you see anything that you feel needs moderation, report it!
- Do NOT reply to a topic needing moderation; unless it's a simple question and you know the answer, the best course of action is always to inform us.
- Do NOT quote a post to backseat moderate, incite more flaming, or further contribute to the off-topic discussion in a thread.
- Directing members to existing useful and relevant topics is a good thing. Posting to state that a thread is a duplicate or violates a rule and will be locked is not.
Note: These rules can be changed at any time. Notification of these rules will only be announced in this thread. These rules will never be changed to retroactively punish or take action against an existing thread, post, or member. _________________
