This. Accelerated Evolution is one of my favorite albums.

I'd have to disagree and say that Scale the Summit is much better than BTBAM. That's just my opinion though.

Was anyone else disappointed with the new An Endless Sporadic album? The self-titled one? (Well, they only technically have one album.)

Hmm... honestly I would like StS better, except for 1) the lack of variety (which means that literally ALL of their songs are good, but none stand out much) and 2) the rare BTBAM songs like White Walls and Selkies that have outros so amazing almost nothing else seems to be comparable to them, except the outro to The Count of Tuscany by Dream Theater.

Karatechess: I'd have to agree on that. The repetitive synth'y song seemed good (I only listened to demo's of the songs), but for the most part, it was a good bit more mainstream, and not nearly as interesting as Sun of Pearl or Anything.

I just recently listened to a couple of songs by Porcupine Tree, and I think that they sound really good. Is Fear of a Blank Planet a good starting point for them? If not, what is a good Porcupine Tree album to start with?

In Absentia and Deadwing. Easily their most accessible as well as two of their best.

You can pretty much go anyway from that point on (assuming you enjoy the two albums).

WAT!? No Coheed?
I love Coheed but they themselves really consider themselves a Classic Rock band. Though with their story I count them as prog and their long amazing guitar solos. Also Mastodon is amazing. The guitar solos, licks, and Bran Dailor's drum's are amazing.

Well that's interesting, I thought the album was a great deal less mainstream. I can understand that the album wouldn't appeal to people who like the heavier songs, but there is some really great fusion-esque work there. (stuff like treading water and Shell) A lot less mainstream if you ask me. I also like the direction for the band. If there was one thing I was disappointed with, it's definitely the short run-time of the album.

Also, apparently no one likes Genesis around here...

Same with Queensryche (not exactly prog rock, but certainly more so than BTBaM)
