|
|
4th Jan 2016 UPDATE:
At 1:15 AM GMT on the 8th of February 2010 I started a forum game. We would create a pixel image as a community. Together, we would painstakingly paint a canvas of a quarter of a million pixels in 50 by 50 blocks. Anyone that wanted to submit could submit, and submit they did.
At 6:40 AM GMT on the 22nd of July 2011; one year, five months and fourteen days later, the final 2,500 pixels were put in place and a true work of art was finished.
However, at 9:05 PM on the 25th of October 2010, I abandoned you. There's no other way to say it. I made my final post as a member of this community. I presumably lurked for a while but what good is a lurker? I popped back briefly in 2014 but made a single post without exploring further.
Today, I came back merely to see if any of my scores were at a decent enough rank to share with the competitive Shrek SuperSlam (don't ask) community I frequent. I saw this thread and thought to myself "That needs to be finished. It needs to end."
I then come in to the thread to discover what I already stated. At 6:40 AM GMT on the 22nd of July 2011 it was finished.
I don't know why this means so much to me. Coming back to any place you used to frequent can be emotional, even if that place is an online forum for people that enjoy playing with miniature plastic guitars attached to games consoles.
I just want to say to everyone that made any sort of contribution to this how proud I am of you. Hopefully I will be able to go through this thread and update the contributer list as well as build a gif of it being built. Also an HD rerelease with all the colours reverted to how they looked when submitted (seriously, compare the final image with the ones submitted).
Here is the the final image in all its colour distorted glory.
Thank you for playing.
ORIGINAL POST:
As you can probably tell by my banners in my signature, I quite like pixel art, although I wouldn't say I was very good at it.
I thought a brilliant idea was to share my love of the pixel art style with my fellow ScoreHeroes and this idea was born.
The premise is simple, each member draws a small section of a larger image and eventualy we will have a large image made by many people.
Here are the rules:
1. Each square is 50 x 50 pixels
2. No two adjacent squares can be made by the same person (horizontaly, vertically or diagonally)
3. An attempt must be made to keep the image flowing
4. The final image will be 500px by 500px (10 blocks by 10 blocks)
5. Do NOT go over someone elses square or edit anyone elses work. You may edit a square you've made but only for minor fixes. The only exception to this rule is to edit an obvious mistake out of someone's square (making there square too small, overlapping another square slightly, etc.)
And here are some tips:
1. You can use any program you like, but I'd recomment MSPaint, it's a simple program that anyone can use and suprisingly versatile.
2. Anyone can join! Even if you have no artistic skills then come and have a go.
3. When saving your file, save it as a BMP file, that way you keep ALL of the quality and the colours and lines aren't blurred or distorted. Some image hosting sites seem to convert BMPs into JPEGs, if this happens then use http://imageshack.us instead.
I think that's everything, I've started us off with some random image I did on the fly, now for everyone else to add on to it!
Edit: Added the grey so it's easier to see where each square starts and stops.
Please be sure to check the latest posts, as I cannot guarantee this image will be completely up to date.
When you have made your square post the whole thing, whichever is easier.
These first squares go on a first come, first serve basis, so post here which square out of the current four available that you want and that will be saved for you, this stops two squares being made for the same space.
If you do not post your square within a few days, your space will be given to someone else.
So, have fun! :D

I freaking love these. Unfortunately I don't have much time to work on it, so I guess I'll have to skip out on this one. |

Definitely a fun start to the project!
Yeah, it looks great, there's bound to be a large amount of different styles going in, and it'll all add to the character.
Right, I need to sleep now, I'll just update the OP and see what has come along in the morning :P _________________

I was quite interested, as pixel art is easy, so no real skill required. :3 _________________

Well, my internet is back up to a respectable speed (although nowhere near as fast as it should be), that's the reason I haven't been keeping this updated.
Anyway, I have made a couple of small changes to the image, one was cleaning up a small slip-up Sully made and the other was a barely noticeable error colour wise.
Anywho, here's the updated image with the updated spaces.

If it's not okay, feel free to change it back:
I added the rest of the last row of pixels on Sully's block. It looked like it was blank unintentionally. _________________

As long as you follow the rules then there is no reason for anyones work not to be accepted, so don't worry about it. _________________

I have this problem when I copy or save Sarg's then try to edit it. It's a JPEG so everything is blurred and distorted.
