Build a gaming PC rig, buy a cheap laptop. You can definitely pull it off with $1,500. Gaming laptops just aren't worth it IMO. Less upgrade ability, too much heat being created, batteries and gaming don't mix. Plus a gaming PC will last you years (and will be easily upgradeable), as will a decent cheap Dell laptop. _________________

I second this motion. I just dropped $1400 on my desktop and it'll be spectacular for years to come. _________________

Gaming and laptop. No.
You can build your own computer for under $1000 and play games with extreme graphics with ease. _________________

If you want, you can jump to 12GB Ram instead of 6GB ram, and still be under $1500.
Enjoy. This is one hell of a gaming rig.
Building a PC is super easy. Things only go in one direction. _________________

1. Get a more powerful power supply, such as this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006&cm_re=power_supply-_-17-139-006-_-Product
People tend to don't care about power supplies, however cheap ones tend to fail.
2. I'd spend a little less on the case. Try going with this one (the reviews are fantastic, may I mention).

3. If you are going to run CPU intensive games/applications (such as Battlefield), don't go with the AMD processors. AMD tends to overheat at a lower temperature then Intel, and there are a few other minor things of why Intel is slightly superior to AMD, even though AMD is a lot cheaper. If you would switch to Intel, I'd recommend the Core2Quad Q9300, 2.5 Ghz. Its priced a lot higher, however it is fantastic.
4. You may want to add 2 GB of RAM. Can't hurt.
Also Squirrel, $109 for a CD drive is a little ridiculous, don't you think? _________________

Yeah I'm never sure on the PSU, and I won't be doing too much gaming on it beyond WoW at the most. I mainly want it for a media server/transcoding
Also, the CD drive is $23, lol. _________________

Roughly what I'd build if I had the money:
Core i7 930
GTX 460 (probably from EVGA)
at least 4GB of RAM (maybe 6 if I have the $$)
I'd try for a Mobo with SATA3 and USB3 but it wouldn't be a priority for me.
(if money was a non issue) I'd get 2 SSDs and run them in AID-0(notice I didn't say "RAID")
Also toss in a 500+GB HDD for storage (I dont store that that much, plus I have a few external drives too)
Logistics like Case and PSU I'd figure out later but this would be roughly what I'd want. _________________

Its a Blu-Ray burner
Joerod: I agree completely with what southparkhero said with power supplies. If you want to spend a few bucks more on something better, its the power supply. An iffy PSU can cause all kinds of problems, from blowing motherboards/video cards, to instability in games, and much more.
It depends on what kinds of games you're playing. The ATI 5750 is a couple bucks cheaper, and if you're playing mainly ATI games (Counter-Strike, Team Fortress 2, Portal 1/2, for example) then you're going to get better performance with that card. If you're going to be playing Unreal Tournament, or anything with the Unreal engine, you'll want to go with the Geforce card.
I would go with 2 2GB DDR3 sticks of ram instead of a single 4GB stick. Dual Channel works amazing when it comes to gaming performance, and is faster than a single 4GB stick.
You said you wanted to use it for Transcoding. I'd go with Intel. They've really picked up their game in the encoding department, especially if you go with an i5 processor. _________________

Just bought a 20 inch LED monitor with cash. It's super bright but strangely my eyes aren't hurting. This is sweet. Any of you guys have experience with them? _________________
