Bump for Matt Cain, throwing the 22nd perfect game in Major League history. (With fourteen strikeouts for good measure.) Which doubles as the first perfect game ever thrown by a Giant during the 130 years of the franchise's existence. _________________

Well that certainly over shadow's R.A. Dickey's one-hitter. XD Also 34 consecutive scoreless innings marks a new Mets record, and it was broken by 3 errors in the 9th. _________________

Cain achieved a Game Score of 101! Holy shit! Tied for second highest game score ever in a 9 inning game (behind Kerry Wood's 20K, 1H performance). Tied with Sandy Koufax for most strikeouts in a perfect game. Mighty impressive. _________________

R.A. Dickey is currently the best pitcher in baseball. No contest. Last 6 starts: 1 earned run, 73 strikeouts, 6 walks, last two starts have both been 1 hit complete game shutouts and 3 of his last 4 have been complete game shutouts. He's also averaging 8 innings a start during this stretch. _________________

Wait: so he's AVERAGING twelve strikeouts (and only one walk) per start for, like, the last month? If so: man, that's the golden-kissed run of a lifetime for pretty much any pitcher right there. Double bonus points for this sort of run coming from a knuckleball pitcher, and at the age of 37 no less. That's just crazy. Good for him! _________________

This has been the season of many pleasant surprises for Mets fans. First David Wright's incredibly hot start, now Dickey's incredible run, who has 42 2/3 consecutive innings streak without giving up an earned run right now. Mets' club record is 49 by Dr. K way back in 1985. Imagine a guy with lights out stuff be overshadowed by a knuckleball pitcher.
Also, I was incorrect for saying he's had back to back shutouts. He should have, but an unearned run in the 9th inning of the Rays game stopped the shutout and his scoreless run streak. (Earned run streak still in tact though.) _________________

So umm...I think the Mets got a little pissed at the idea of being swept by the Cubs. Needless to say, they're preventing that from happening today. _________________

How bout them Giants? Not only swept the Dodgers but shut them out for the entire series to pull into a tie in the west. _________________

Went to the Phillies game today, and while it was nice to see Utley come back in the manner that he did, MAN our bullpen really sucks. How Chad Qualls even has an MLB job is beyond me. _________________

I know, right? Throttling your bitter rivals and allowing no runs scored over an entire series... in which neither Cain nor Bumgarner had a start. That's pretty lock-down awesome right there!
(I'll be at the Giants-Reds game on Sunday, seated in Outer Nowhereistan some damn place. Woo!) _________________

And we appreciate the efforts! Giants in sole possession of first place now, having notched another shutout - this one a one-hitter. That's 36 straight scoreless innings pitched! A modern franchise record! _________________
