Didn't see this mentioned anywhere and I thought some folks would be interested.

http://rockhall.com/inductees

For the lazy:

Guns N' Roses
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Donovan
Laura Nyro
The Small Faces/The Faces
Beastie Boys
Freddie King
Don Kirshner
Cosimo Matassa
Tom Dowd
Glyn Johns

As with every year, people complain about how the whole thing is a joke and it's not just rock and roll anymore (I'd like to think it just spans artists who are influential of various genres, just like Rock Band doesn't just have rock music :p). But it's still an honor and I'm happy to see the Chili Peppers get a nod. Beastie Boys as well.

Looks like Rush got snubbed again, anybody know what the reason could be? (And I mean a cited, stated reason - not your opinion about how "they just hate prog because they're biased, maaaan!" Because believe me, we've all heard it before)

It's a rage against Canada. All they know how to do is eat maple syrup and wear toques. What a bunch of Hoser's!!!!

Sorry, getting my inner Canadian out...

RHCP being added is pretty awesome though

Good for RHCP and Axl & The Randoms. I've not heard of anything below the Beastie Boys on that list. As for whether that says more about me or the list, I'll let you decide.

Glad to see RHCP and the Beastie Boys getting the recognition they deserve.

It's an absolute joke that Rush isn't in.

RUsh has never really been lauded as "good" by the media (Rolling Stone magazine, for example, never includes Rush on their lists)

If you go to the site and click on those names you don't recognize, you'll see a lot of them are like producers and behind-the-scenes guys, looks like the actual label is "sideman." So it's not surprising none of us would hear of them. I have no doubt they don't deserve it though (looks like several of them will receive the honor posthumously)

Hey now, Alex Lifeson was number 98 on the 100 greatest guitarists list! Lol. 98. Lower than Kurt Cobain. Sigh.

It is an absolute joke at any rate, completely agree.

And Randy Rhoads is 85. haha

I am actually most surprised that KISS is not in the RnRHOF. I dont think KISS has musch musical talent. But there is no denying that their stage show was a pretty big part of rock and roll history.

I agree with everyone else, the fact that another year has gone by without Rush being recognised is shocking, Rush are one of the greatest rock bands ever, no, one of the greatest bands ever, accross any genre. How many more kittens do they have to save from burning buildings to get some love?

To quote what I saw elsewhere "We all know these top 100 lists are merely just jokes and popularity contests. I mean, how many times have we seen Kurt Cobain in the top of the top 100 guitarist lists now? And it wasn't even in the magazine Deaf and Clueless music fans weekly!"

Lists like that are definitely a popularity contest for sure, but I'm wondering what's the wording of it. Like, "Top 100 Guitarists" is interpreted on ScoreHero as meaning most talented or "best" but in my mind I would put in guitarists who were influential in the music world. Which while I wouldn't put Kurt Cobain at the top or anything, he definitely fits that role (whether you like Nirvana or not, which I particularly don't). George Harrison is another one that's always on that list that everyone complains about, which is too bad. Just because a band doesn't play crazy riffs or solos doesn't mean the guitarist isn't talented or innovative (or even incapable of such solos... I think many of you would be surprised by the musical capabilities of musicians in bands you consider "boring").

It does bug me though when people assert that a band like KISS doesn't have very much musical talent because their concerts are more about the show than the music... there are a few songs you need to hear if you really think these dudes can't rock

Not that I'm defending the legitimacy of such lists or the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, but it never hurts to look at things from another angle.

Aye that's true it is entirely personal opinion when it comes to top 100 lists.

Personally I judge off a combination of technical skill, influence, and emotion (hence why S.R.V will always be the greatest guitarist in the world to me).

And I definitely have to add that KISS, although I've never liked them at all, should definitely be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame by now as well. They truly revolutionized the idea of a live rock concert, and it still very apparently shows today.

Kirshner was the host of Don Kirshner's Rock Hour which helped put out a lot of live music in the late 70s by all sorts of good bands including Rush. I see that he died this year so that's probably why he's getting the nod now.
