To those reading this thread, hello! If you don't know who I am, allow me to introduce myself. I'm a former moderator of SH, and stepped down a few years back when I entered college. Although I haven't been active in the community since then, I still keep loose contact with SH members I've met over the years and browse the forums once in a while.
Now a second-semester senior, three college friends and I are going on a cross-country road trip for three weeks. We're leaving from New Hampshire tomorrow and will be hitting all nine divisions of the U.S., starting with Chicago and working our way west.
This isn't really a get-together, but we're hoping to find SH members willing to house or feed us, or even let us shower, in our long travels; the degree to which you're willing to help us is completely up to you and definitely appreciated. We're respectable young men (all 21-22 years old) who are fun to be around: two of my friends are big gamers (LoL/HoN/etc.) and another is a really chill guy who's traveled around Europe; as an old SH member I can offer memories of early get-togethers (including meeting many top names) and tales of the community during its early formative period, and as a former moderator I can offer juicy stories of heartbreak and betrayal amongst the staff (I might be exaggerating slightly). Also, although rusty, I've retained a fair amount of my former skills and would be thrilled to play GH/RB (or other games) with SH members!
This is a bit rushed since we embark on our journey tomorrow, but I wouldn't want to forget the rough itinerary. If you're anywhere near us (say, in the same county or something), then that's likely close enough for a change of course from us. If anyone has an apartment and is willing to meet a former member of the Old Guard (and his friends!) then we'd love to meet you! If you're interested, feel free to post here and/or send me a PM; I'll be checking SH as frequently as I can. Thanks, and I hope to get back to my roots and meet a lot of you guys! _________________

I'm waaaay south of Chicago, down more by St. Louis, but I'm in Illinois and have a "spacious" apartment. If you guys are heading down this way, we are the perfect stop. Rock Band, alcohol and tons of pizza (I work at a Domino's). _________________

Shit Army, that's one hell of a trip. I'd obviously let you crash at my place, but considering I'm only about 45 minutes south of where you live, I doubt you'll really need a break at that point. I'm assuming you're getting done before next semester starts, but if you're still traveling by Jan. 22nd, my college apartment just outside of Boston has plenty of floor space. Just keep me updated! _________________

I live about an hour South of Albany New York, and way off the highway so it would be probably a bit out of your way. XD _________________

Thanks for the responses, guys! We're leaving Chicago for Denver today, which means we're out of range of all of your houses.
Lee: We'll be back by 1/16, so definitely before classes start for us. However, I'll definitely swing by Bentley this semester, so I'll see you in any case!
Note: we'll be in San Francisco in a few days, and may need a place to stay. If anyone's in the SF area, let me know! _________________

Yeah, that's unfortunate! At least I know it for the next time I'm in the area. _________________

Update! Going to Las Vegas today, then to San Francisco for a couple of days after that. If anyone's in the SF area and wants to hang out with us, let me know. Also, we're thinking of staying in the Los Angeles area for a day, so if anyone could house us, that'd be greatly appreciated! If you can't house us, hanging out is still allowed. _________________

Enjoy Vegas! HellAshes and I went over summer break and did fairly well financially (meaning we didn't lose too much ). Be sure to go to the Hooters casino if you want some cheaper table games and $0.25 wings. _________________

Well, shit. Wish I'd known about this earlier, what with me being in favor of both road trips and wanderlust.
I'm in Santa Clara, in the south San Francisco Bay area. I'm generally happy to host random-ass travelers, the almost cosmic lack of space in my apartment notwithstanding.[*] Give me a day of lead time - and the opportunity to make my apartment look at least a little bit better than a stereotypical man-cave - and I'm happy to let people crash here. Not that I'm really available until January 2 - dunno how that meshes with your schedule - but I'm otherwise happy to offer crash space.
[*] A surprising amount of my free space is consumed by recycling. "When we arrive, we will help take six units of recycling out to the appropriate bins" earns you tons of goodwill and a non-trivial amount of space to potentially occupy. _________________

Yeah! We had authentic deep dish pizza, traveled around the city and went to a couple of bars. We were fans of the city, if only because its layout was much more linear and reasonable than Boston's.

Turns out we spent very little time in Vegas. We were a little disenchanted with its excess and instead went to a national park for the night, which is sort of what we've been doing for most of the trip. Besides the bright, flashing lights, did we really miss out?

I wish I had checked this earlier! We essentially hit the Rockies when the new year began, so internet access was difficult to find and we sort of knew that we wanted to end up in SF anyways. We stayed with an old friend, but if I checked this thread more often I would have surely spent a day hanging out with you! We're scheduled to be at Joshua Tree later today, which now puts us too far south to see you. _________________

Oh, no worries at all. I've certainly been there myself. "I know I last messaged you in Fargo, and said I would try to swing by when I was 'somewhere in Ohio'; long story short, I'm in Buffalo right now. Sorry!" Glad to hear that your road trip appears to be going along swimmingly all the same! Continue having awesome times that we can vicariously live through; I'll continue keeping an eye on this thread all the same.
(IMHO: you didn't miss much in Vegas. One hour of people-watching, a couple hours of "I am in awe that such over-the-top creations actually, physically exist here, in the middle of the desert", and I was pretty much tapped out at that point. Some folks love the place, and more power to them, but I see no compelling need to go back.) _________________

Thanks for the well wishes! We're heading to the Grand Canyon now, then a long trip to Austin to visit Deschain! I think I agree with your sentiments regarding Vegas, which is what the four of us have learned applies to most U.S. cities: people-watching, a few cool buildings, and finding it all fairly uniform and hum-drum. The campgrounds and national parks are the highlight of the road-trip, for sure. _________________

I really only liked Vegas due to my extreme love of gambling. I'll probably like any casino in MA more once they get built since it's closer and will probably be cheaper. _________________
