Well, I have quite a few ones here. It will be split between different genres. Some of them will have been heard by other users.
Progressive Metal/Progressive Death Metal
Dream Theater
Symphony X
Opeth
Porcupine Tree
Haken
Death Metal
Death (one of my favorite bands of all time. Human, Individual Thought Patterns, The Sound Of Perseverance, and Symbolic are absolutely essential listening for anyone who thinks metal is a one dimensional genre)
Morbid Angel (Get Altars Of Madness for this, but STAY AWAY FROM ILLUD DIVINIUM INSANUS)
Black Metal
Mayhem (listen to De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas)
Technical Death Metal
Necrophagist (two of their former members now play for Obscura)
Doom Metal
Sleep (listen to the mother of all doom metal albums: Dopesmoker, a hour-long tribute to WEED!!!!) _________________

El Scar is one guy, not that it matters.
Cormorant has been a favorite of my random bandcamp exploration.
Everything but Cormorant's Dwellings should be free, so grab these for sure. _________________

Metalcore, usually. I figured 99% of people have already heard of ABR though. <_< _________________

I'm not big into death metal, but there are a few bands i like from that genre.
The Black Dahlia Murder - As it has been said already, i would be surprised if you haven't heard them. They are good nonetheless.

Skeletonwitch - Honestly, i'm not sure what it is about this band, but i really like their stuff, commonly referred to as blackened thrash, but i see a lot of straight up death metal influence in there too.

Ouroboros - i recently found this band basically on a whim and they are actually really good. Very death-y for my normal tastes, but the technicality of the music pulled me in. Although i'm not a fan of Necrophagist myself, comments lead me to believe that they sound somewhat similar. Strangely enough, when i saw the title of this thread, they were the first band that came to mind.

Foxy Shazam's first album is some REALLY damn awesome Post Hardcore. All four of their albums are amazing, but they're all completely different genres.
The French Passion of Animality Opera
Aroma of You
My personal favorite of the album, NO. Don't Shoot _________________

sorry bout that. i've been out of the loop on the recent stuff. i honestly got fed up a bit, had to sell my car and my entire audio system and totally stopped listening to (new) music for the last 2 years. but since i received headphones (studio hd beats) for x-mas, ive been listening more to music and actually enjoying it like i used to in my car. _________________

For tech death metal, I would recommend The Faceless. I would list other metal bands I like but they're pretty well-known so I'll just hold off. _________________
