All That Remains is my favorite band, and I listen to a few other bands I assume would fit in the "Metalcore" genre. I know it goes against all things holy, but I just prefer to group all the music I listen to into 4 categories. I have "Metal", "Country", "Rock", and "Poppy Crap". The genre doesn't really matter, it's whether you like the music or not that matters.

Meh, it's just all the "It's not death-mega-super-duper-screamo-core, it's math-rock-post-pre-hard-core" comments get old fast

These are 'metal/rock/hard-rock/core' bands that I really enjoy:

As I Lay Dying
Avenged Sevenfold
Bullet For My Valentine
All That Remains (most of their stuff)
Alter Bridge
Black Tide
Black Veil Brides (some of their stuff)
Chevelle
Disturbed (some of their stuff)
Escape The Fate (some of their stuff)
Falling In Reverse
Five Finger Death Punch (some of their stuff)
Halestorm
Killswitch Engage (most of their stuff)
Stone Sour (some of their stuff)
Slipknot (some of their stuff)
Lamb Of God (most of their stuff)
The Devil Wears Prada (some of their stuff)
Three Days Grace
Times of Grace
Trivium

------

I've noticed that the most common thing I enjoy in all of these bands is solid vocals, interesting lyrics (sometimes), & melodic / riffy guitar playing.

I tend to not be interested in a band if they don't have some sort of melody and/or 'jammable' riffy guitar work. For example, I love the album 'In Waves' from Trivium, but don't really care for 'This is Where it Ends' by All Shall Parish or 'Khaos Legions' by Arch Enemy.

------

I am currently checking out Asking Alexandria, Alesana, Darkest Hour, old Atreyu, Between the Buried & Me, The Human Abstract, & Parkway Drive - I'm just trying to broaden my horizons a bit.

Judging by your music tastes I would suggest starting with Alaska first, and then maybe moving back to Silent Circus/Self titled. As Colors and Great Misdirect are definitely not what I would call jammable.

Which one has Informal Gluttony on it? I like that one.

Colors. I think Colors and TGM are the best BTBAM albums all the way through, though Silent Circus and Alaska are fantastic in parts. BTBAM gets heavier as you go back (Alaska and self-titled mostly).

Between the Buried and Me's S/T is a bit generic metalcore, but it has some nice tracks on it. (Shevanel Cut a Flip, Aspirations for example.)

Silent Circus is still very heavy, with lots of complex breakdowns, but more of the band's softer sounds come out on this album. (Bridge of Mordecai, bridge of Ad A Dglgmut, Shevanel Take 2) It definitely has a more unique sound than their S/T, which is why I love it a lot more.

Alaska is where the band started to sound a little more progressive. Still very far into pure heavy style riffs and breakdowns, but songs like Selkies, Backwards Marathon, and All Bodies have small bits of "progression" in their structure.

Colors is their most widely known album. It's a concept album lyrically, and structurally, being literally one long hour and ten minute song. This is when everyone started calling the band Progressive Metal. This album is really out there. There's some polka, a lot of Mr. Bungle influences, and hell, why not throw in a hoe-down section. Lot's of fans of the band, including myself, call this their favorite album, since it's so diverse, a great listen, and absolutely unique.

The Great Misdirect is where the band started to sound a lot like a heavier version of Dream Theater to me personally. This album almost becomes Colors 2.0, despite the lead singer saying otherwise. Some tracks are epic, others seem to drag on, rather than keep me interested non-stop. I will note that Desert of Song is an incredible piece on the album. The feel they went for on that song fits perfectly. Did I mention the last song on the album is 17 minutes long? =P

Parallax: Hypersleep Dialogue Part 1, the band moves more toward their heavier roots again. It's only 3 songs, each very long, and 2 of them almost sound like they could fit on Alaska. The lead singer does a little more singing over screaming on this album, which I don't mind. Back are the heavy breakdown riffs, and dissonant chord progressions. The final song on the album almost doesn't fit compared to the first two, since it's so much more soft spoken.

There are my little mini-reviews of each album. XD

The Silent Circus > Colors > Parallax > Between the Buried and Me> Alaska > The Great Misdirect > The Anatomy Of.

My opinion is weird, so I can understand if everyone disagrees with me. Also, Colors is by far the best album they have released thus far. This topic is pretty unrelated to the main thread.

Haha yeah, but I figured before we somehow get on topic, I'd like to say my favorite BTBAM album is definitely The Great Misdirect. I wouldn't even consider Anatomy an album since it's just a bunch of covers. It's like how I don't want to say Garage Inc. is a real Metallica album.

Anyway, I found this on Elitist's fan page.

I was wondering if anyone wanted to do some sort of full/partial band collaboration for this? We might not win considering it's more than one person, but it would be fun to do nonetheless.
Here's a link to the song: Elitist - Caves

What I listed was my favorite albums, not their best albums.

Top 4 is always the same, last 4 change frequently. Really it's pretty much impossible to rank them though on a scale of 100 Parallax 2 is 100.1, Colors is 100, TGM is 99.999 etc... Just all their albums are way too damn amazing
