|
|
So like my subject line indicates, there was a tournament at a Best Buy near me (North Canton, OH for anyone who cares) and I came out victorious. Each player played three songs - two of his/her choosing, one chosen by tournament director (Cowboys From Hell). There wasn't much competition on Expert - everyone played Infected, Unsung, and the like. And no one did too great on Cowboys From Hell.
It was hard to play, though, with the lag on the 60" Plasma TV we were playing on, but it was still fair since everyone got the lag. I played No One Knows (ripped up, got around 300,000 points), Ace of Spades (lag got to me (a mere 130,000 - poor showing, but I did some tricks; no-look playing, playing behind my head, etc.), and Cowboys (got 140,xxx - lag kept breaking my combo). I did better than everyone else on Cowboys (3 out of the 6 people who qualified for the tournament failed the song) and was the only person to do tricks, so I guess it wasn't too hard a decision.
I also dressed up, as we were encouraged to do by the Best Buy employees. As you can see I sort of dressed like Axel Steel from the game:
There was a pretty big turnout of people watching. I counted about 50 at one point. Kinda made us nervous. Here's a pic of some of them to give you an idea:
A girl was in the tournament, too. A good looking one at that. I know, surprised looks all around. And she got third. Not too bad. We only got a picture of her from behind, but it will do.
The 1st place prize on expert mode was a custom painted guitar controller, which they said cost them about $250. Who knows, but it looks pretty kickass anyway. I'm proud of it. Here are some pics:
Me with guitar.
Front of guitar.
Back of guitar.
Front upclose.
That about wraps thing up for this one. Tournaments are fun. I encourage you guys to start some more up. Kudos to Sephi for making a big effort thus far. You're my hero. _________________

DAMN! That's a sweet guitar.
It makes mine look like crap. Granted, I only used $3 lacquer for the final coats and $5 red spraypaint, but still.
That is one fine looking guitar you've won bud.
Congrats on the tournament. _________________

Thanks man. The guy who they got to paint normally paints Hod Rods and other classic cars, so it looks like he knows what he's doing. Maybe I'll wax it tomorrow. _________________

Man I cannot get over how clean of a paint job that is....I guess it should be though. Since the guy's job is to paint hot rods.
....That must've been an embarassing day for the guys at Best Buy. Walking into a hot rod paint shop and asking to paint a plastic guitar....
How much of a nerd would you feel then? _________________

That's their job, though, to be nerds. Whatever the hell they call themselves, the geek squad. I dunno. But they fit the profile for the most part.
They seemed fairly interesting in GH at least, though, which makes them cool in my book. They weren't very good at it. The tournament director said he was good at it, but failed Cheat On The Church in the second solo on expert. There's no need to fail that song. _________________

Well, as long as they're interested in it, it shouldn't matter a whole lot.
And as for failing COtC, you shouldn't really fail until the third solo if you're going to fail. Just because that one last longer and can't be floated by on SP....like I tried to do the first time I got to that point. _________________

Thanks. I figured I'd need to brag about it on here, so I made sure the right pictures were taken.
Yeah, she was pretty good looking. But I was surprised; I think she actually looks better in the picture than in person. Maybe her backside is just her best side. That's probably it. Her boyfriend was there, too, though, not really paying much attention. That's how it goes. _________________

That's how it goes eh? Taking pictures of random hot chicks and posting them on the Internet while their boyfriend isn't looking.
That sounds about right actually. _________________

She must've expected it. I mean she was dressed like a hooker. _________________

Maybe she was dressed like a rocker. Albeit a very slutty and hot rocker, but still a rocker. _________________

I guess that's what ladyrockers have to do to get gigs. It could've been an accurate depiction. I don't really know any female rockers to compare with. Prostitutes, however, I know a lot of those. And she looked like one. _________________

Nah, her skirt wasn't long enough to be a prostitute. _________________
