Has anyone come across a significantly quieter strum bar modification or custom controller with a quieter strum bar? |

I have
The clicks are still there, but you can't remove those: its a microswitch.
What I did was, I opened up the base of the guitar, then unscrewed the 4 screws holding the board down into place. When you look at the strum bar, you'll see the 4 pieces of rubber that hit the plastic, 2 on each side. I put several strips of electrical tape on the plastic, where the 4 sections of rubber hit the plastic.
Its much quieter now. Velcro will make it quieter, but I'm perfectly happy with 4 or 5 strips of electrical tape.
If your strum bar is squeaking, take out the strum bar completely, then oil the metal rod. That's it. _________________

Are the clicks at least quieter? |

This isn't a homebrew suggestion, but the TAC Flying V doesn't have a clicker and is very quiet--there's only the sound of the plastic clacking. You could probably silence it entirely by opening it up and putting in some padding... I might try that tonight. |

Are you kidding? I rely on that wretched clicking to keep my time in songs like The Breaking Wheel. I couldn't do it without the clicking. _________________

yeah dude, when your not playing the game, take the strum bar and move it a little, make sure you don't hit the side of the guitar tho, and you will be able to hear the click noise _________________

yeah that kind of works, I tried that. But it messes up my alt. strum rythym since I'm not that good at it yet. Funny thing though, I recently got so annoyed with the clicks (when I'm off rythym it distracts me really badly) I tried covering the base of the guitar with a bunch of blankets haha. It works somewhat but the blankets make it difficult to play. |

I used velcro.
Not only does it silence your strumbar, it also makes control tighter.
4 bits of self-adhesive velcro, check it out.

It's almost impossible to screw up, Danno.
I'm a total noob at stuff like this too. Just be sure you don't lose any screws, for there are many. |

that can be fixed by opening it up and oiling the metal bar where the strumbar is. _________________

Then just put vaseline on the metal rod in the strumbar. That's even easier than the velcro. Did it months ago, and it didn't squeak since. |
