I've never played the game, but I assume every one was constantly jumping and rolling around, making it bastard annoying to catch people and 'smash' them. |

Nono, there's much more to it than just rolling and jumping. That was intended by the desginer.
Lemme see if I can find a video.
EDIT: Ahh...I can't find a video. Damn. But I REALLY need to work on my paper, so I'll try to explain later. |

What about teching, l-cancelling, wavedashing, triangle jumping, shield canceling, item catching, dash dancing, spiking, edgehogging, crouch canceling, meshing out. If you learn the techniques too then it levels the playing field. It's like you're saying people getting good at the game have ruined the game. _________________

Oh fuck fuck no. That's totally not what I meant. Believe me, I know all about high levels of play using anything humanely possible in the game, designed or otherwise. I'm from the school of Sirlin.
It's just that competitive play in SSBM isn't really all that interesting because of a lot of that shit. Part of it in my mind is because of those techniques. Especially since at this stage in the game it's kind of hard to pick up.
Of course, the big problem with SSBM is the lack of balance, but that's just poor game desgin. Somehow I don't think Nintendo had balance in mind when they were making SSBM anyway. I mean, I don't think they're really big into the tournament scene with games.
Please don't get me wrong, though. I snake in Mario Kart, roll cancel in whichever game it is(I think it's CvS, but it might be MvC. I ALWAYS get them confused, and I'm not an active player anymore), and all that. If it's there, I'll abuse it. |

I hate you.
Snakers are what ruined the online game of Mario Kart DS. I loved playing that game until freakin snakers took over every map. Of course, if I REALLY wanna win, I just put 'em on Rainbow Road. They don't know how to race normally, so I'm at a huge advantage on that one. d--b
My point of view is as follows. If you're not good enough to play the game without being cheap, then you need to work on it. _________________

That's why I quit playing.
That and Tetris DS came out and I was too busy having fun spanking some n00bs at Tetris online.
As for SSBM, there's a tourney here on Sept. 23rd in the local area. I plan on bringing in Jigglypuff to kick some ass and take some names. Actually, I can't do much at all of the advanced techniques, so it would be interesting if I ran into someone who does, and get my ass kicked.
Oh and for roll canceling, its MvC2 ;) _________________

Where I come from there's not really anything that's "cheap" in games. Just using the code in the game to the biggest extent. If the desginers of the game didn't want it in there, they should've coded the game better. |

See, I don't mind when you use the game to its fullest extent.
It's just when you do that ALL THE TIME and don't showcase any skill beyond being able to boost a lot off of slightly turning...that's when I get angry. I mean, snaking in bits can be a strategy I guess. But when you use it all the time on every map, it gets lame.
It also annihilates any kart-choosing strategy, which is nearly half the battle in the game. _________________
