Or a badly tuned guitar.... if you're still learning chances are your guitar is not tuned very well. |

Playing music and playing a music simulator aren't quite the same...how can I put this? These games can teach you how to play the notes, but not necessarily play the song. There's some kind of a Zen difference that I can't quite pin down in words but...When I was 15 there were no training aids. You wanted to rock because you heard the music and it sounded like something that you were, that burned to be let out, so you sit down with a guitar and become a slave to your hunger until it has instructed you how it wants to be heard through your instrument. When you can finally play good music, it was created out of your sweat and love for rock music, every last shred of your technique and sound has you in it because of why you practiced it. That's what really gives you a sound.
This game seems to feed an illusion that if you can move your fingers just like so-and-so then you are playing music but the why of it is different. The game can't put the hunger in you, or the spirit, or the art, only the motions. So as long as people can see this for what it is then I guess it's cool, but it can't really teach you to rock, is what I mean I guess. _________________

I would actually like to try it out. It seems like a good idea to me. _________________

Maybe it works off of the tone of the note your holding and it decides if its right or wrong, I wonder what would happen if you use a reverb or some type of distortion on that game. |
I actually read an article on it saying that it would use a Guitar To USB connection, or something similar. So you wouldn't need an amp or a quiet room as far as I know. _________________

i like the concept a lot, the only thing that is baffling me is what determines what fret you hold down while you are strumming... i mean the 6 strings the notes are on but how would we know which fret on each string to hold while strumming, because the numbers that flash by in that video aren't the frets: they are the measures. |

This game looks really cool, if it turns out exactly what im thinking...and if the graphics are redone. If you actually learn how to play real guitar then i wouldn't mind trying it out. |

Make it up as you go along!
Or play every song at the twelfth fret _________________

Each color corresponds to a string (obviously), the gems travel down the string in traditional beat-matching style, the gems themselves have a number on them. This number corresponds to which fret it is, so if the number is 0, then you don't hold any frets (open note), if it's a 1, then you hold the fret at the very top, it continues like this all the way down to the high frets.
It was fairly easy to read and manage. _________________

I'll go ahead and disagree with most of the posts on this thread and say that this would be a great game for people who are already accustomed to GH and want to lrn2playreeltar. It would take a hellalotta getting used to and practice, though. |

I would buy this. It looks like a fun way to learn how to play the guitar. It's probably wayyyy cheaper than guitar lessons. The places I heard of are about 27$/hour. This is why most people I know teach themselves how to play by reading up online. _________________

Seems like a good way to practice guitar as opposed to learn guitar. This couldn't effectively teach you the basics, like hand positioning. However, once you learn the basics (which can be self learned online), this could be an extremely useful tool in honing your abilities through a fun interface.
I might give it a try myself, since I've been trying to get better. _________________

I was given an electric guitar a few years ago but never learned how to use it, can't decide if this would help me make progress or not... tempting |
