|
|
Anyone want to give this one a try? I saw a post about it on the official forums and whipped this out. Let me know how it works out for you if you try it...
If I was to try this mod I would start off with one of these: Normally-Open Leaf Switch. They are easy to find, robust and sensitive.
The space between the leaf itself and the body of the switch can be "filled" with a compressible material to control how hard you have to press the leaf before the switch closes. Paper, rubber, cloth... it will be trial and error...
Then find a heavy gauge guitar (or even base) string and anchor it something like this (I just whipped it up in Paint, no complaints!):
I think it will be satisfactory as long as it isn't delicate. Everything must be "solid" or it won't be worth playing. _________________

This seems pretty awesome, looks like it could work. The problem would be how would the plastic hold to constant tension of the string? _________________

That does look cool, if I was going to do that I'd have a string going over the frets, so it'd feel ever more like a guitar
EDIT: yay! guitar legend! |

It'd be awesome until the first time you're jamming on a fast song and the string breaks. _________________

I wouldn't play with the guitar much, I'd just do it for shits and giggles. *shrugs* _________________

If you use a heavy guage bass string, it shouldnt break all the easily, it would take at least 3 months which is about as long as it takes for an SG controller to break |

I've had mine nearly a year and it's not broken. It's worn in, that's for sure, but not broken. _________________

Had mine for a long time, still working, like 6 months or so.
Then again I keep care of it, when the buttons got mashed in, i did a fret mod, when the connections started getting worn, tore it apart and used pencil lead and the connections were just as good as before.
With good maintenance, anything can last a long ass time. Even your atari 2600 ;) _________________

By the way... After watching through some of the playthrough videos, I can only wonder: Do you Americans hit the strumbar with a sledgehammer or something to make it produce such a noise? *Specifically pointing at Krim's BatM video and Drey's Strutter* |

Nah, we are just hard rockers! (Joke my friend made up when I told him he was hitting the strum bar like he was trying to destroy it). _________________

...Are we not supposed to hit it with a sledgehammer? Ah, no wonder I haven't been able to hit that YRGM solo...
Anyway, replacing the strum bar with a string seems a bit pointless, but hardcore nonetheless. Nice thinking

You can definitely pick a string faster than you can move that strum bar. Whether or not it will actually register is another story entirely. |
