Hi, I have a home exam where I'm supposed to put these programs up against eachother. So I wondered if I could get some help in here. I'm guessing many of you have tried both these programs. My task is to find out if GIMP is as good as Photoshop, being an open-source program and free and all, and if you could manage with GIMP instead of Photoshop for your use? Pro's and con's...

thanks in advance,
maynard

Well, although I have not personally tried GIMP, I do own CS2, so I can help out a smidgeon.

The major thing GIMP has going for it is that it's free. CS2 shouldn't cost the insane amount of money it did (I got mine off of eBay for $10 though Mr. Green ). All CS2 really is is a slightly upgraded version of PS7.0. Sure, it's prettier to look at and there's a few more filter options, but other than that it's just hundreds of dollars more expensive than the same thing.

Sorry I couldn't help you with in-program use, but I felt I had to help at least a little bit.

Yeah, I had to beg the hell out of my parents for them to get it for me though. They say I "need to get off the computer" as much, but I say nay.

Nay.

PS: Post 200! Mr. Green
