Round 2 will be due Sunday 7/20/08.
Round 3 will be due Sunday 7/27/08.
White or Black?
To decide which player plays as which color, compare your previous games.
If one player has played as white less often, that player should play as white for your current game.
If both players have played as white the exact same number of times, then the player who has played black most recently should play white for your current game.
If both players have played as white the exact same number of times AND both players both have played as black the same number of games back, then the top player in the bracket will be white.
Current Bracket:

Matt PMed me the other day, saying that he won his game against diddin. We want to play against each other as soon as possible, so how are we going to decide who is white and black for the second and the following rounds? _________________

I saw a suggestion that I liked that would basically compare the number of times each player has played white and whoever has the lower total may have white. In case of a tie, then the player who has most recently played as black will play as white. In the case of that being equal, then the player on top in the bracket pairing will play as white.
I'll update the OP to reflect that.
@Yudlugar: You mentioned winning round one against "an alternate". Can you please specify which alternate you played against? _________________

My game was meant to be against christiano27 (he was in the space marked "[empty]" in Game 4), but I received this PM the other day:

Might be nice to see if one of the people who was interested that didn't get a spot wants to play in the first round against you. _________________

Technically we stalemated, but you whooped my ass so badly that I think you should advance anyway. _________________

He is welcome to continue playing. I just figured he might be on vacation or otherwise MIA and without putting any attention to this, it will die out quickly. I'm just here to ensure that it continues going on smoothly with some solid deadlines and some structure/guidance.

In the second round, I won Matt. It was a good game, lot of pieces were traded off quickly, turning it in a pawn and king vs. pawn and king ending. It could have gone either way, but then Matt let me slip (accidently, I think) one of my pawns out of his reach, letting me queen it. He came close to making one himself, but then I mated him when he had his passed pawn of the last rank before getting it promoted. As I said before, Matt, good game. It was a well fought, although a bit short, match. Anytime you want to play me again, let me know. _________________
