what paint to use on my sg

i painted my guitar with a common can of spray paint but i let it dry for like a day and when i started to use it it felt kinda sticky after a week the stickyness went away,but it started to peel

my question is-when you paint your sg do you apply a clear coat of paint or is it because of the quality of the paint im using?

What type of spray paint did you use if wasn't rated for plastic then thats your problem I think. Plasti-kote and Krylon® Fusion would 2 best ideas to use for it.

Sand it,
prime it,
paint it, paint it, paint it, (Multiple thin coats > one thick one)
clear coat it.
