how do you activate drum star power

My freiend is usuing rB 1 drums and can not figure out how to activate star power, can some1 tell me how ASAP

I heard you just hit the two right-most pads together, but I could be wrong. I'm 90% sure you activate by hitting two of the pads in unison.

You hit the Blue and Yellow pads in unison.

RB1 kit was asked - it's blue + yellow.

Best bet is in a blank section, activating on notes has very mixed results.
