As you may know I've been here a long time & been through the hell of server issues some time ago.
Will this adversely affect the site(s) & will new hardware be necessary to implement all these changes? |
It's hard to really know for sure until we've got something ready to test, though if all goes well, things should run more efficient than they do now given the same hardware. However, seeing as it's a significant effort and we'll have all fresh software, it'll probably be wise to change the hardware regardless (even if it's not an upgrade) since system components don't last forever and it's been a few years.
Thanks for all the support and I'll be sure to keep everyone updated periodically as progress takes place; especially when we determine what will be done with SH hardware to support the new system. _________________

Well Scorehero has certainly come a long way. I can't say I've been the most dedicated member, leaving and returning several times after my initial year or so here, but it still has left a pretty profound impact on how I spend my time on the internet and my overall interaction with the web. I cannot say how incredible it is to see the dedication that you (JCirri) have dedicated to this site and the unfathomable amounts of work that only close staff can probably truly understand. I've made some pretty awesome friends on this site and have never enjoyed an internet community this much.
A sincere thank you for making Scorehero what it is today, and what it will be in the future. _________________

I'm excited. There is so many possibilities and the potential for this project is so open-ended, anything is possible. I'm particularly excited that this project is as ambitious as it is; for the average user it is very hard to comprehend the amount of work that goes into things like extended ratings for World Tour and Rock Band, not to mention things like Compare Users for World Tour, which I am sure will be part of this update.

If you have ideas, feel free to share and we'll gladly consider them but make no guarantees. | As a regular user of the site, I have a bunch of ideas I would like to share, and would like to know where any and all suggestions should go. Is there going to be a specific place to share our own ideas for this update? For example, will there be a "ScoreHero V.III Update - Brainstorming" thread somewhere, or will we discuss any ideas or suggestions we have in this thread? The site already has SO many features, discussion on any and all subjects can get very hard to organize. Some users may have ideas for the Forums or Manage Scores portions of the site, while others have ideas to make Song Stats and the Custom Songs Database better; where should these suggestions go? _________________

That'd be sweet, maybe in the re-design upgrade from phpBB to IPB, maybe?
Anyway, good luck to all developers. |

I'd like to point out that both vBulletin and IPB cost $$$ to use. |

...and that any change from phpBB would inevitably be a downgrade.
I figured there's always work going on behind the scenes, so it's interesting to get a glimpse into that side of things. Good luck with it all, I only wish I could be of some help but my programming skill is non-existent. _________________
