Old news is old.
New news is new.
Taken from: http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/upcoming_tours/dream_theater_to_support_iron_maiden_on_tour.html
Prog rock/metal icons Dream Theater will spend their summer supporting Iron Maiden on the band’s month-long tour of major US and Canadian markets. The tour launches June 9 and runs through July 20, and includes a stop at the storied Madison Square Garden in NYC, marking the first time in a lengthy and respected career that Dream Theater have played the world’s most famous arena. This tour will mark another milestone in Dream Theater's history, which continues to expand and evolve 25 years deep.
Of touring with Iron Maiden in North America, drummer Mike Portnoy said, "It is a bit of a dream come true for us. After 25 years together, at this stage in our career, there's honestly only three bands Dream Theater would consider opening for and Maiden is one of them. It is an absolute honor. Through the years, we've done many one-off shows with Maiden and they've almost all been overseas. It is very exciting to finally be doing a full tour with them and on our side of the pond no less. These are gonna be amazing shows that the fans won't want to miss. Up the f---ing irons!"
Playing MSG for the first time is also a huge accomplishment for the band and they are thrilled about the prospect. "Dream Theater has achieved so many dreams through the years, from playing the Budokan in Tokyo to Wembley Arena in London to Radio City Music Hall in NYC," Portnoy recalled. "But the one remaining dream that has eluded us through all of these years was to play at Madison Square Garden. Well, on July 12, along with Iron Maiden, that dream will finally be fulfilled."
Guitarist John Petrucci was equally stoked about the MSG show, saying, "I am unbelievably excited to be finally playing Madison Square Garden, and with the almighty Maiden to boot! They have been heroes to the band since the beginning and are iconic in our eyes. There is nothing like achieving success and recognition in your own country, in your own city. It's going to be an incredible night for sure."
Portnoy has proof of this career-long dream, saying, "About a month ago my family and I were watching a video of my first band Intruder from back in 1983, and in the video before the show, I was interviewed and asked what my dream goal was. I responded ‘to play the Garden.’ It took almost 30 years, but it’s surreal that I will now be able to check it off the list."

From the little clip they released of random songs they put together it defiantly has the heaviness found in ToT and Systematic Chaos, but theres also some soft melodies thrown in too. I kinda disappointed theres only six songs though. Either way im excited for this cd as its the first cd they have released since become a huge fan. _________________

I'm not going to complain about six songs. I seem to remember a little album called Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence that happened to also have only six songs. Haha... that's funny... "only" six. In any case, Six Degrees remains one of my favorite Dream Theater albums to date. VERY excited to see what comes of this. |

I'm very excited for this album. Portnoy has described it as "a DT album with A Change Of Seasons, Octavarium, Learning To Live, Pull Me Under and The Glass Prison....all on one album.... "
I can't wait to see what they do with it. I'm really hoping they take it back to a more Images and Words sound and move away from the heavy stuff this album. I seriously can not explain how excited I am for this though _________________

I hope this album turns out to be one big A Change of Seasons, not the album the song. The song had its heavy and soft parts which makes it too this day one of my favorite DT songs of all time.
By the way, I wonder which one is the AA song??? _________________

I can't wait to hear this.
The cover has me thinking that it might be a mix of light and dark as well.
As far as some people saying they hope it's not as heavy as the last album, I hope it is.
Whatever it is, tormented and I are so buying it.
No dates for their world tour in the US, yet? |

Awesome. The cover reminds me of the end of Glass Prison actually -
"Way off in the distance I saw a door
I tried to open
I tried forcing with all of my will but still
The door wouldn't open
...
I turned around, saw a light shining through
The door was wide open"
I hope the new album is as heavy or heavier than Systematic Chaos, in particular Constant Motion and Dark Eternal Night, with some softer songs. Or like Petrucci's Suspended Animation solo album. _________________

This album sounds like the next Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence to me. I bet that since this is their 10th album and there are only 6 songs, all of the songs are going to be at least 10 minutes long. I hope this album captures the heavy side and light side of Dream Theater at the same time. Judging by the album art, it probably will. I really hope that there is a 20+ or even a 30+ minute long song, because those are usually Dream Theater's best songs. _________________

I think they struck gold with Systematic Chaos. In The Presence of Enemies in particular has really grown on me. I hope they keep up the awesome work with this next album. _________________

This is the first time I've ever been impatient for an album to be released.
Games, all the time, books, yes, movies, of course - but albums? Never. _________________
