|
|
So Apple previewed iPhone OS 3.0 today, and the newest (and most awaited) features coming to the iPhone later this year: MMS (yes, you read it right...FINALLY!), copy/paste (again, a TON of people want this, but I'm indifferent about it), push notifications (sweet...no more having to hit the mail icon every hour or so!), turn by turn directions (for iPhone 3g users), A2DP (stereo) Bluetooth support (again, a sweet feature, but I won't use it), and landscape keyboard in text messages (suh-friggin'-weet).

The vid will be posted later on today on Apple's website:

I for one am not phased by this at all... Mind you, I haven't had a decent run around with the iPhone. Because they cost an arm and a leg. >_< But they didn't have MMS compatibility right off the bat? Sheesh. _________________

You can also get the firmware from "third party sources" for free.
Anyways, I'm pretty happy. I love my iPhone, but just the iPhone itself is kind of weak TBH. Jailbreaking really did it for me, adding loaaaads of new features. A lot of stuff was still missing, and this is it. Finally some A2DP (stereo bluetooth), copy and paste, etc.
The biggest things that stick out are:
Copy/paste
Landscape email, sms, etc.
MMS
Voice memos
Search SMS, Email, and even a "spotlight" feature which searches the entire phone.
Turn by turn GPS
sync notes
Bluetooth expansion (finally some good BT profiles, which ive really been missing)
Youtube account login + subscriptions
Autofill for safari
I think it's a great update, one that has all the features the iPhone should've had from the start. Late is always better than never. _________________

Agreed 100%, but better late than never, right?
If/when all of this comes out, there is no phone that will be able to compete with the iPhone...other than the lack of a tactile keyboard, it will be untouchable. _________________

TBH, these features should have at least been on the 3G at release date. Come on Apple, Features > Release dates. Also, WTF, why is there a $10 fee for iTouch users. Personally, I don't own one, but, if I did, i'd be mighty mad about this. Just because the iPhone has a phone means it's better? _________________

This is amazing though. When 2.0 came out, I used my iphone constantly for the next few months. I see this happening again with all the new features. The 3g exclusives are a let down. _________________

Well, all I can say is about time.
I've only had my iPhone since Christmas, but seriously, what were apple thinking not supporting MMS, Copy/Pasting, Landscape SMSing, turn by turn directions, bluetooth (Well, BT that can be used for anything other than a headset)...
I'm glad jailbreaking gave me most of those, and it will be interesting to see how apple plan on integrating some of these features.
I hope MMS doesn't get its own app icon, and it gets integrated with the SMS icon somehow... _________________
