I was wondering if anyone has upgraded their PS3's HDD to anything over 120GB? I want to get a bigger HDD for my birthday but don't know if I should get one or not because I have my Rock Band savedata which is copyright protected and RE5 as well. So my real question is if I choose to backup from the system settings? Will these be backed up as well?

Also, I didn't post on a PS3 forum because I didn't feel like signing up for one website for that one question.

Anyways, thanks in advance

Here's a thread on the Rock Band forums that might help you out.

There's no need to visit the forums. Just go to the official website and a couple clicks later you end up here:

He's asking if his copy protected saves will be backed up as well.

Yes. As long as you use the "Backup" feature in System Settings it will be fine. Also the external HDD MUST be Fat32.

I'm rolling on a 320gb (actually 298) hard drive.

I was wondering about this too. I have been erasing game data like MGS4 when I stop playing it because I don't have any room any more does backing it up mean I won't have to download the RB DLC again? I hope I won't have to.

Yes. If you have a FAT32 formatted storage device with a good amount of space then you should be able to back up EVERYTHING that is stored in your PS3's HDD: Demos, Movies, DLC, Save Data, Music, etc.

Just a tip:
Before you backup, delete the game data for any games that dont have DLC/big patches. It will make things faster.

I deleted the MGS4, Oblivion, and GTA4 data first, saved 13gigs of transfer time. (remember, game data, not save data)
EDIT: My GH3 DLC restored from the backup, so you won't need to re-download any DLC.

I can't remember if I had any copy protected saves, but all my saves transferred flawlessly when I restored the backup.
