I've been wondering about this for a while now and I'm hoping that someone can answer it for me.
Thanks. _________________

no, whammying faster does not give you more sp. unless of course, you whammy so slowly that the hold stops being blue for a second or two- but as long as you're whammying constantly, even slowly, you get the same amount of sp.
If you find you're losing sp on holds randomly, it might be that your whammy bar has lag or something, meaning that it doesn't register the whammy instantaneously- I believe I have this problem with my SG, as I find it hard to get full whammy from most holds. Of course, this may only happen with limp whammy bars, so you might be able to ignore this. >_> _________________

Good tip is to find a balance between going beast mode on your whammy and barely touching it. Just experiment a bit now that you aren't smashing it, and see what's the best way to do it without destroying your guitar. |

Alex pretty much nailed it in his post. If you want to get optimal whammy, then the answer is to start whammying sooner. That can mean either whammying and strumming more simultaneously, or strumming the note early, etc. Also, you can hit the note after the sustain a little late if you want to make sure you get all of the whammy off of the back end. |
