you should buy a cord to hook your guitar directly into the computer |

This, but if you want a mic then how much are you willing to spend? |

Actually a 1/4" to 1/8" cord would result in loss of quality since you are leaving it up to a simple cord to do a complex A/D conversion. Buy a sound card or a D.I. box for clean recording. If you must have a mic, then we need to know your budget range. |

I just used my Logitech webcam for both my Warped Scream and Nameless recordings. Maybe I just got lucky that the sound quality was good? _________________

You can get a decent condenser mic for around $100. I usually just plug my rig into a phantom powered mixer that plugs into my line-in jack on my computer. I also use Sonar to mix and master my music. You need decent mixing software. _________________

Yeah, I'm looking into getting a Line 6 GX for recording guitar onto your computer. _________________

I don't know much about mics..but just remember to record preferably in a closed space rather than an open since a normal mic will easily catch all the background sounds _________________
