Either way, I don't think Eruption should be on the list anyway. Sounds like noise to me :p |

Wait, what? Eruption is one of the greatest rock instrumentals of all time. It definitely should be on that list. |

I really wouldn't call it that. It's really good, but it's just a long guitar solo. In my opinion it would not belong on a list like this. _________________

I'm not much of a fan of Eruption too. It's not really that impressive nor does it sound great IMO.
I really do hate these lists. The reason is because they encourage the worshiping of mainstream rock 'gods'. Back then, sure, being that famous meant something as far as the quality of your music goes for most people, but now it seems the style changes are more grassroots, starting with indie pioneers then moving into the mainstream. Most of the people who worship these bands only hold them to such high esteem because other fans told them too. They might not even like the music that much. If the influence they made mattered on this list than many less famous bands are really missing. How about this song? Or this one? This? This? There are tons of other examples of songs that influenced mainstream music now more than some of the songs on that list -- yet these lists are supposed to contain the most influential, awesome artists. It's easy for me to see that it's really "bands that assholes always insist are above others". _________________

And opinions is why these lists suck. |

It's not just my opinion though.

IMO, something like that should be on the list, regardless of the definition of "song".

Seeing Unforgiven III at 57 made me laugh pretty hard. I'm a big Metallica fan, and I like the song, but it just doesn't deserve to be ahead of Sultans of Swing, Smoke on the Water, etc. or even be on this list in the first place. |

You could benefit from reading Eastwinn's most recent post. I'm not going to put it in my own words, because it's one of the most concise and effective posts I've seen on the matter. _________________

Don't flit from one thing to another, because that just smacks of a large lack of determination and drive. And people don't like you for that, and won't remember you for it. I mean, I get that you have a plucky spirit and a willingness to try new things, but there's a limit, man. | I might knock it down to just Thursday and Friday. |

I'll put it this way.
Should people make lists of the 500 greatest rock song of all time? YES
Should they rank them in order of 500-1? NO
Have the list, but don't put them in order. Because since all of the songs on this list are of such high caliber, any one of them could be number 1. _________________

It doesn't have to agree with what you're thinking, it's just the opinion of a single part of Brazil. No need to worry (not trying to make Brazil seem unimportant btw :P) or just provide some stupid "lolwut" post..
Edit: wrong list from a different area, but you get the gist. |

I was surprised to see Fear of The Dark at #11. #1 was predictable and disappointing. It made me sad to see so much Black Album Metallica on there but I can understand why. It is a radio station after all and those are their most radio-friendly songs. _________________

Because they've been around since 1985? The song on the list is from 1992 FYI. | Classic rock is a radio format, not a genre. It is generally applied to pre-80s hard rock, glam rock, arena rock, blues rock, and psychedelic rock bands. If classic rock were just anything recorded long ago, then consider these songs. You can set the threshold for classic rock anywhere you'd like...
Napalm Death - The Kill (Grindcore - 1987)
Possessed - The Exorcist (Death/Thrash metal - 1985)
Discharge - The Final Blood Bath (d-beat/hardcore punk - 1982)
Minor Threat - Filler (Hardcore punk - 1981)
Joy Division - Leaders of Men (post-punk/gothic - 1978)
The Stooges - Search and Destroy (proto-punk - 1973)
Cromagnon - Caledonia (experimental/avant garde/noise - 1969)
MC5 - Kick Out The Jams (proto-punk/garage rock 1969)
The Velvet Underground - Venus In Furs (alternative/proto-punk/experimental - 1967)
Anyways, extremely predictable, cliche, and worthless list. _________________
