|
|
Basically this thread is just to discuss the fastest double bass you've ever heard and possibly the techniques used and how much you can brag about your speed if you do play drums :P
Basically, just a double bass thread in general.
Dimmu Borgir - The Chosen Legacy
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GF3wagWwHjM (3:40)
290 BPM 16th notes. It really doesn't get much faster than this; I have yet to find anything.
Dimmu Borgir - The Serpentine Offering
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eAmMcBQavKE (1:20)
This one is (relatively) a lot slower. I don't exactly know the bpm on this, since I fail miserably at calculating it
As Blood Runs Black - My Fears Have Become Phobias
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ppHDz9P1LM (3:30)
Probably the most popular song with holy shit double bass in it. I honestly don't know the speed of this again, but I believe that the previous two are faster by a small margin.
As Blood Runs Black - Hester Prynne
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Ah94AztDlU (0:40)
Slower than MFHBP, but still fast nonetheless.
Here Comes The Kraken - Don't Fail Me Darko
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mxi6tSCYygc (2:58)
Honestly, I think this is very close to The Chosen Legacy, possibly faster. Again, I suck at getting bpm counts.
Here Comes The Kraken - The Legend of the Rent Was Way Hardcore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdlifSVh2x8 (3:38) (Also other parts of the song)
The reason I put 3:38 is because it's easier to hear in the breakdown. There's probably higher tempo markers throughout the song, but you get the point: Holy cock.
Vile - New Age of Chaos
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQZDS9hfowA (Several Parts throughout the song)
Really a low quality video, hard to hear a little, but the bass clearly stands out.
There are a ton of other fast bass bands in general I can bring up (Morbid Angel, Nile, Angelcorpse, Cryptopsy), but I want to hear what other people have! _________________

I left out Absu on purpose. I was hoping I could get several demographics of bands in here. Great find anyway. _________________

In my opinion, blast beats fucking fail hard. Go listen to some drummers that actually use more technique than speed. i.e. Mike Portnoy, Danny Carey, The Rev. _________________

I never said this thread was centered around blast beats. And besides, most of the stuff I posted aren't even blast beats. It's hard to play straight up double bass and incorporate that into a song. Aside from that, the double bass sections in those songs aren't necessarily for prolonged periods of time. Anyway, a lot of these drummers are pretty damn technical also, even though they may not be as progressive as Rush, Tool, or Dream Theater. _________________

Austrian Death Machine - Tactically Dangerous/Cannibal Commando
(Might be a drum machine, I don't know)

The start of SlipKnots Sulfur. Makes my feet hurt !! My friends swear they can hear slight pauses.
And if you can find MegaDrivers ''MetalHog'', Wow, I think it Drum Machine, but it has a feeling of being done by someone. |

Actually Sulfur really isn't as fast as it sounds. It's not triggered of course, but I Slayer has a lot of stuff that isn't triggered that still tops that. IMO Dave Lombardo is probably one of the fastest drummers who doesn't use triggers. As for MetalHog, I'll have to give that one a listen. _________________

There's more to be said about speed than meets the eye. Fast drummers have an advantage to people who purely play by technique. If you can play it at a very fast pace, then anything else at a slower pace becomes easy. Being that fast also takes years of practice and endurance.

Triggers don't really matter. All they do is make each hit more distinguished. People will take advantage of it by doing little strokes to appear faster. Being the fastest without triggers doesn't matter. Once you reach a certain speed the resonating of the drums will get picked up by the mic as a wall of noise.
Now it's time to school you all!!!
Blastphemer playing Nile:

Just watch the video and you will come across some good speed.
George Kollias DVD preview:

Technique you say?

Meshuggah - Bleed performed by some kid on his suitcase in a kitchen:

The Berzerker - Corporal Jigsore Quandry:

1:27 Despite it being a weird sound, that's real.
Low tempo, awesome double bass performed by George Kollias:

There's something to be said about the groove.
For laughs:

I just got my double bass pedals like 2 weeks ago so I can't go very fast for long, but I can play along to WaHNtHaC by TBDM. _________________

Damn, is that a human? It's definitely possible, but it sounds either triggered to hell or a drum machine.
And also at the guy above me, that's pretty good for only playing for two weeks. I've been playing for about three years and I could play stuff like My Fears Have Become Phobias, but at your rate you can probably do that in a couple months lol _________________

The only difference between George Kollais and a drum machine is that one can produce bodily fluids XD _________________
