Listening to the new Mastodon album right now. Just finished Stargasm (lol). With Blood Mountain and Leviathan being the only Mastodon albums I've heard, I'm really digging The Hunter. Probably might beat out Blood Mountain for my favorite Mastodon album. _________________

Just listened to the new Machine Head album and *SPOILERS* it's brilliant. Early standouts include I Am Hell and This Is The End. It's definitely different from The Blackening, but it's still got that adrenaline punch and some of the riffs are fucking bonebreaking. I like this album more than I liked The Blacking when I first got it - and to be honest, I don't see that changing.
Pick this up as soon as you can. _________________

I think the opposite. While it has some alright songs, few of them are buried underneath filler. I think it's I Am hell has a good song in it, but you gotta go in 3 to 4 minutes to get to it. It just seems like they were trying to make the songs grander, but fall pretty flat on doing so. Blackening was alot better as the songs simply pack alot more punch and do it better. Listening to "Locust" actually made me go back and pick up Blackening which has been like a year and reminded me that it was a pretty solid album that is still worth listening to lol
I'll probably give Locust another run, but just was not impressed with this album at all. |

Each to his own, but I think that the "grander" approach worked, personally. I 'd agree that two songs leave something to be desired (Who We Are and Pearls for Swine) but on the whole, I'd put this in the top two or three albums I've listened to this year. _________________
