So it's not possible to get an 8* on any song? |

Correct, 8-stars is impossible to achieve on all GH1 songs.
However in GH2 it might be possible, only time will tell. _________________

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only way to get 8 stars would be to constantly have the star power on with an 8x multiplier, even then you'd have to hit every note and hold every sustain for the maximum duration. _________________

OK, you're wrong.
4 * = average of 2x base score
5 * = average of 3x base score
6 * = average of 4x base score
7 * = average of 5x base score
8 * would be average of 6x base score, not 8x, which would still be pretty darn hard (and definitely dependent on precise SP usage and almost certainly a FC). This score is dependent on star powers being placed and used such that you hit a good bit more than half of the *total notes* (not total time) of the song, while under 8x multiplier (and all the rest under 4x except for starting up). Into the realm of the completely impossible
9 * would be average of 7x base score, and
10 * would be what you were describing above.

And the most anyone can get is 7.8?

8* is impossible so I think 7.9 would be the most, (but I have no idea) |

It simply depends on the song's chart (SP placement, and density of notes). In GH the charts just happen to be so that it's impossible to get more than half the base points under SP (averaging 6x for 8-stars).
However, this isn't a general rule or anything. In GHII, there very well could be songs where 8-stars is possible. But in GH, the highest rating achieved so far is 7.8-stars. I've checked the songs that are close and I know that 8-stars is impossible, but maybe on Cochise or SYSB, 7.9 could be possible. _________________

Any way you could calculate what 7.9 * would be for Cochise? I'm curious how close my score is. _________________

Yeah I was just wondering if it was in reach with another squeeze or something. If there's anything left to squeeze. _________________

Yeah I really don't think *anyone* is going to squeeze another 2,600 points out of the song. _________________

Now that we know some base scores and that 2.8 seems to be the multiplier for 5 stars (instead of 3.0), what is the new formula for calculating an exact star rating in GHII? |
