I did look around the forum first before asking this so if this has already been answered elsewhere then I missed it and you have my apologies.

There are some GH1 songs I really like and others I don't the same goes for GH2.

With all this talk of custom songs for both versions I was wondering if it is possible to take the songs I like out of GH1 and inject them into GH2 replacing the songs I don't like.

And if so does anyone feel like explaining how?

I did see that but as near as I can figure that only runs under Linux as there is no exe file in that archive.

I also read the thread on doing it manually and although they do tell you how to put the songs into GH2 they don't tell you how to get them out of GH1 to start with

You can extract files from GH1 with ghex extract function.
About running the converter in windows, read the first 4 lines of the readme.txt :
Quote:
this program will (hopefully) convert a guitar hero 1 midi into a guitar hero 2 midi.

usage: run Gh1miditest via the command line, like so:

(at your command prompt)

java Gh1miditest (watch the capital G)

ok don't I feel stupid now

Thanks for the help I seem to have it working now

I just have one more question

I actualy used GHExplorer to extract the songs from GH1 by just right clicking the song folder name and extract.

I am assuming this is ok since they seem to be converting without errors however a couple of the songs when they extracted they also have a GEN folder as well as the midi and vgs files.

When i go to put the songs in GH2 what do I do with the GEN folder?

hmm i was just doing this just now as well actually and a lot of the songs when i go to replace them into GHex are displaying this error when trying to preview the .mid

Hmm i cant copy paste it but its vaguely like:

Code:
"Unable to read beyond the end of the stream"

"An "EndOfStreamException" occurred in mscorlib.dll:__Error.EndOfFile()

Odd thing is a few songs like trippolette (advharmony) and cowboys from hell seem to work fine. Any idea's?

I've never tried the gh1->gh2 converter myself, so I don't know.
That error indicates there's something pretty seriously wrong with the .mid though.

Yup i worked it out. Seems its the problem with the converter as somebody actually stated in the thread (note to self: Read Things).

If you open the window then press convert, the first one works, every one after that is just a straight copy. You have to close the window then open it up again for it to do the next one.

I had the same issue here as soon as I tried to import the midi files.

It seems the convertor does not do the midi files right however it does the vgs files fine.

so what I did is manualy edited the midi's in anvil studio by changing T1 Gems to PART GUITAR and then in the events list changing end to [end] as instructed in the second post in this thread: http://www.scorehero.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=3776

Then use the manualy edited midi file and the vgs file the convertor created and it worked perfect
